Spring into Mixed Modes of Transit

As the weather gets warmer and gas prices rise, it’s time to rethink how you get around in your daily life. Ask yourself a few simple questions. Is there accessible public transit near you? Are you aware of vanpooling? Are there other rideshare options available? Where can you walk or bike to? Start thinking about how you can ditch the car when possible, get some exercise and reduce your carbon footprint at the same time.

What’s in your Neighborhood?

Whenever it’s a nice sunny day, I always want to be outside and go for a walk. I sometimes overlook what’s actually within walking distance of my home. In my neighborhood, I can walk to a small park with a walking path and even visit local businesses without crossing any main roads. If I extend my route, I can reach even more parks and shops. And if I hop on a bike, my range expands even further.

Take a moment to explore what’s around you. What can you walk to? What do you notice along the way, maybe trees, plants, local spots? Can you access a bus stop or train station nearby? Challenge yourself to walk or bike from home and rediscover your neighborhood.

Vanpooling

Interested in trying a new way to commute? Looking to save money getting to work? Vanpooling might be a great option for you. Earlier this year, NJ Transit increased its vanpool subsidy from $175 to $400 per month, making it more affordable than ever. On average, participants can save up to $10,000 annually on fuel and maintenance costs when commuting with Enterprise.

Vanpools are flexible. Participants decide the driving schedules, operating details and how costs are shared. Typically, there’s a primary driver and a backup, but each vanpool sets up what works best for them. Check out these links below to learn more:
