“We are asking all walkers in the program to embrace our new pledge, called Walk the Talk,” said Becky Taylor, another Trenton Trails subcommittee leader and former co-president of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail. This credo, similar to Scout pledges, commits each walker to have every other walker’s back. If there’s an issue on the trail, whether it’s health, social or safety-related, walkers promise to help fellow walkers in need.

March 2026

Special Introduction to Downtown Architecture, Thursday, March 5, 12 – 12:45 p.m.
Highly respected Trenton architect John Hatch, FAIA, principal at Clarke Caton Hintz, will host an outdoor classroom experience through the central core of Trenton focusing on architecture. Starting at the Old Barracks, the only surviving French and Indian War barracks in the U.S., walkers will learn about significant architectural contrasts within a one-mile walk. They’ll view Thomas Edison University, the New Jersey State House, the State Museum and State Library from an architectural perspective, looking at both distant views and close-up details, learning about a variety of architectural styles.

Discover Trenton’s Assunpink Creek, a special downtown walk, Friday, March 13, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
This walk led by the Watershed Institute offers an environmental focus on the Assunpink Creek as it winds through East Trenton before joining the Delaware River. Walkers should meet at Artworks, at 19 Everett Alley, off South Stockton Street. The route will follow the Assunpink through Mill Hill Park to Clay Street Park and back. Watershed Institute scientists will talk about how healthy the waterway is and how they are working with community members in 11 communities, including Lawrence and West Windsor, to develop and implement a plan to improve water quality and reduce flooding. This walk will also serve as a chance for working group partners, students, and community members to connect around shared goals for cleaner, more resilient waterways.

Special South Broad Street Streetscape Walk, Sunday, March 29, 1 – 3 p.m.
Mercer County Executive Dan Benson will share exciting plans to create a welcoming and connected streetscape in the South Broad Street area that brings people together, supports local businesses and capitalizes on civic and cultural spaces. His revitalization plans will also improve the pedestrian and cycling experience. Planned stops on the 2.1-mile walk include the Eagle Tavern, Clinton & Roebling Lofts, Millyard Park and Casa Cultura.

Trenton Walks! is a community engagement program that features walks throughout Trenton on different days and at various times. The program is sponsored by the Trenton Green Team, with additional support from the Mercer County Action Team of the Circuit Coalition. Read the press release here.
