Each year, Greater Mercer TMA (GMTMA) invites students in Mercer and Ocean Counties to combine creativity with a message that matters through its annual Safe Routes to School Bookmark Design Contest. This year’s theme —“Walking and biking are fun to do. What do you do to keep it safe too?” Encouraged students to think about the actions they take to stay safe and express those ideas through original artwork.
“Each year, we are amazed by the creativity and insight these young artists demonstrate,” said Cheryl Kastrenakes, Executive Director of GMTMA. “Their artwork not only inspires their peers, but also plays a role in promoting safe walking and biking habits throughout our communities.” Each winner received a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card, and their bookmarks were professionally printed and will be distributed to schools and libraries throughout Mercer and Ocean Counties—helping spread simple, meaningful safety reminders for all ages!
The contest is part of GMTMA’s work as the Safe Routes to School coordinator for Mercer and Ocean Counties, a program supported by the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Through this initiative, GMTMA collaborates with schools, families, and communities to make walking and biking to school safer, more accessible, and more fun.
