Growing old can be hard. People can feel lonely as their transportation options become limited and it gets harder to drive themselves. Older adults need a safe way to navigate their community, get to doctor’s appointments, supermarkets, and other places. That’s where volunteer drivers come in.

Greater Mercer TMA operates RideProvide, our transportation service for seniors 65 and over and visually impaired adults residing in Mercer County, Plainsboro, and the southern part of Montgomery NJ. But community-based programs like RideProvide, using paid drivers to reliably help fill some of the gaps in transportation needs for seniors, are scarce here in New Jersey and throughout the country—which is why volunteer driver programs are so critical for older adults. In Ocean County, our friends Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey and Interfaith Health and Support Services are looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers who can help fulfill the transportation needs of older adults who no longer drive. They are looking for volunteers who meet the following criteria:

  • Sociable and friendly
  • Based in Ocean County, NJ
  • Has a valid driver’s license
  • Available to drive a few hours a month
  • Ready to make a difference and give back to their community
