Do you know about the New Jersey Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Recognition Program?

Schools and municipalities can apply for recognition for their commitment to Safe Routes to School through this exciting new tiered recognition program that seeks to encourage SRTS projects and foster a culture of walking and biking to school. Nominees and recipients will be recognized for implementing SRTS programs such as walk and bike to school events, adopting supportive policies, obtaining support from local organizations, and/or using survey tools to evaluate existing conditions for safe walking and bicycling to school.

You can nominate yourself, or Regional Safe Routes to School Coordinators (GMTMA is the coordinator for Mercer and Ocean Counties) can assist with nominations. Recipients will be presented with a certificate or award depending on the level of recognition as well as listing and promotion on the NJ SRTS website and other local media. A one-page Recognition Program Levels Sheet about the SRTS Recognition Program can be handed out to schools and municipalities interested in applying. Before you apply, make sure you have the information requested in the nomination form.

For more information, go to the NJ SRTS website. Schools and municipalities can apply online. The deadline for this round is December 15, so don’t delay! Contact GMTMA’s Safe Routes to School coordinator for more information and assistance.
