Lace up your walking shoes! Friday is National Walk to Work Day. Since 2004, the event has been held every year on the first Friday of April. The day is promoted by Prevention magazine and endorsed by the US Department of Health and Human Services and the American Podiatric Medical Association.
Commuters are being asked to leave their cars and, well, every other mode of transportation, to get back to basics and walk to work on Friday. GMTMA is encouraging workers to post to our Facebook page your experiences walking to work — not just on Friday, but any day. Have you ever done it? If not, why not? What would make a walk possible for you?
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise for our physical and mental health. It’s one of the few workouts we can do that doesn’t require any fancy or expensive equipment. And it provides such great health benefits as weight loss, reduced cancer risk, and reduced heart disease risk. Just about anyone of any age can get out and walk.
