Covid-19 has impacted all areas of our lives, including the way we commute.  We have far more teleworkers with commutes no more than a few steps than we did pre-Covid, but that’s not an option that everyone has or chooses.  Carpooling still offers many benefits and some that you may not have considered in the past.  If you are considering carpooling as a commute option during Covid-19, please keep in mind these benefits and tips.

Carpooling can have the following benefits:

  • You control who you share your space with
  • You and your carpool partner can determine cleaning protocols and proper airflow/ventilation for the vehicle that makes you the most safe and comfortable
  • You can save money by sharing gas and parking costs
  • Works for people regardless of commute distances
  • Available to commuters who have limited or no car access
  • Reduces parking needs for employers
  • Reduces vehicle emissions and improves air quality

Carpooling Tips:

  • Don’t drive or ride sick
  • Do not use the air re-circulation mode and/or lower the windows
  • Passengers should sit in the back seat to maximize the distance between passenger and driver
  • Limit the number of passengers;  2 people per vehicle is suggested at this time
  • Wipe down car seats, door handles and seat belts with disinfectant after every ride
  • Refrain from touching the car and items inside the car
  • Passengers handle their own personal items

Stay safe!
