In Holiday travel, Transit, Travel Information

This year we are seeing an increase in holiday travelers, with numbers nearing pre-pandemic levels. According to the AAA holiday travel forecast, almost 110 million Americans will be traveling this holiday season. More than 100 million of those travelers, an increase of 27.6% from last year, will be driving to their destination.  With some information and kindness towards one another, your travels will be more fun and safer for everyone! Whether you are traveling or staying local, here a few tips and info to help you navigate the holiday season.

CDC Guidelines

  • Wear a mask on public transportation, rest areas, airports, airplanes. The mask should fit your face well and must cover your mouth and nose.
  • Stay 6 feet apart from others
  • Avoid poor ventilated indoor spaces
  • Wash your hands often

Driving tips

Check the status of the rest areas in the states you travel through/to, some may have COVID-19 restrictions/safety guidelines.

Before you hit the road, make sure you have everything you need, with this winter driving checklist and what to carry in your car list.

On the road, do not drive distracted, stay alert, and slow down when driving in winter conditions, don’t crowd the snow plow, and move over when you see emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the road.

In case of an emergency, if you are stopped or stalled in wintry weather:  stay with your car while calling for help, put bright markers on your antenna or windows and keep interior dome lights on, don’t run your car for long periods of time to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, and keep your exhaust pipe clear of any snow.
