Stafford Township has been working with the Greater Mercer TMA for years with the goal of improving road safety in their community. Multiple school travel plans have been completed to apply for Safe Routes to School funding, one of which was awarded. The Township is also applying for the Transportation Alternatives and Safe Streets for All (SS4A) implementation grants to fund roadway safety improvements. One of their greatest challenges to safety and mobility, especially for vulnerable road users like people walking and biking, are the three major highways that divide the town. The purpose of this report is to review the safety concerns around one of those highways, NJ Route 72.
