Greater Mercer TMA’s (GMTMA) sixth annual Safe Routes to School Bookmark Design contest is now underway.  The contest is open to Mercer and Ocean County students in third through fifth grade. Students can show their ideas to save the planet while walking or biking to school by creating a bookmark for the contest with the theme “Create your own Superhero! What does a Sustainability Superhero look like to you? What powers or gadgets would your Sustainability Superhero have to make your neighborhood cleaner and friendlier?”

Throughout the year GMTMA works with schools to encourage students to walk and bike to school where it is safe to do so and help communities identify solutions to improve the areas where it is not safe.  “The contest is a great way to encourage students to think creatively about walking, biking and other sustainable actions that we can all do to keep the Earth healthy, “said GMTMA Executive Director Cheryl Kastrenakes.

Winners will receive a $50 gift card alongside bookmark printing! Grand prize winner will also have their superhero character turned into a plush toy.  For more information about the contest and the Safe Routes to School Program go to gmtma.org.  Registration form and contest rules available at https://gmtma.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/bookmark-entry-form-2019.pdf.
